De manier waarop de agrarische strijd verband houdt met de enorme uitdaging van de klimaatverandering is een essentieel aandachtspunt voor zowel denken als handelen. Klimaatverandering is onlosmakelijk verbonden met kapitalisme, maar hoe de relatie tussen kapitalisme en klimaatverandering op het platteland uitpakt vereist een diepere analyse.
Journal of Peasant Studies, Transnational Institute, Collective of Agrarian Scholar-Activists of the Global South, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies organiseren een intenationale conferentie rondom het thema “Climate Change and Agrarian Justice” . Vanuit een spectrum van wetenschappelijke en activistische betrokkenheid, en in de aanloop naar COP27, zoeken zij bijdragen die spreken over hoe we een anti-kapitalistische, trans-milieu en agrarische benadering kunnen opbouwen om klimaatverandering in landelijke omgevingen aan te pakken. Het conferentieprogramma is ontworpen om de dialoog en interactie tussen wetenschappers en activisten te bevorderen.

In a recently-published essay, ‘Climate change and agrarian struggles’, members of the JPS editorial collective lay out a preliminary agenda for future work linking climate change to critical agrarian studies. From across a spectrum of scholarly and activist engagements, and in the lead-up to COP27, we seek contributions that speak to how we can build an anti-capitalist, trans-environmental and agrarian approach to confront climate change in rural settings. The conference programme is designed to foster dialogue and interaction across a spectrum of scholar and activist communities. We are making every effort to secure simultaneous translation for Spanish, French and Chinese, for plenary sessions only. Language interpretation will be confirmed later.
